  • Pakistan Chief Minister Pervez Khattak reached an agreement to supply 15 drugs marketed by Novartis for various conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and breast cancer free of charge in the country, The Express Tribune reported Wednesday.

  • The drugs were selected after considering three variables, namely medical relevance, high demand and lack of access.

  • Senior health officials revealed that practitioners endorsed the decision to acquire the medicines in a meeting held at the health department.

  • The government noted that while the drugs will be provided for free, the country will fund the creation of dispensation centres and purchase customised software used by the company.
