Jim Chanos just slammed 2 pharma companies in a presentation about their 'murky alliance' - (Business Insider via NewsPoints Desk)

  • Investment manager Jim Chanos has criticised the "murky" relationship between Mallinckrodt, which generates most of its revenue from Acthar, and pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) Express Scripts, which exclusively distributes the drug for the company, reported Business Insider.

  • "This alliance may lead to performance enhancing drug prices, but it could give investors the blues," Chanos said.

  • According to the news source, that is because the US Centers of Medicare and Medicaid have noticed that Acthar is one of the most expensive drugs it pays for.

  • "Washington is circling around PBMs…[and lawmakers] want to know more about the opaque way they control pricing and the way they help patients pay co-pays for expensive drugs," the news source said.
