Tanzania's Medical Stores Department (MSD) director general Laurean Bwanakunu guaranteed that the availability of essential drugs in the country will reach 90 percent by Marck, allAfrica.com reported Wednesday.
Bwanakunu noted that MSD has started purchasing drugs directly medical supplies directly from manufacturers to increase access and supply in the country.
"The new measure will greatly save money used for paying brokers. Up to now, we have already issued 58 contracts for the purchase of essential drugs from domestic and overseas manufacturers," Bwanakunu said.
Bwanakunu added that MSD is working to establish pharmaceutical firms to produce drugs and medical supplies through public-private partnerships.
